September 30, 2012: “We still got a long way to go because everybody wanna diminish your accomplishment,” said Jay-Z during his third performance at the newly constructed Barclays Centers where he responded to factual information provided by David Halbfinger of The New York Times and TheLaunchMagazine.com that revealed his stake in the Brooklyn Nets to be less than 1 percent. “When I look at the paper and I see them talking, ‘Eh, he owns one-fifteenth.’ First of all, I don’t know where they get that number from. But I’m cool with it. I know it’s not about me, it’s about y’all. What I mean by that is it’s not personal to me. They know that if you see me standing here that you know it’s possible to achieve great things, and I know a lot of y’all are ready to achieve great things…Don’t let anybody diminish your accomplishments. It’s our motherfucking time now.”
Jay-Z, who once rapped on “Heart of the City” that “I’m not looking at you dudes, I’m looking past ya,” also encouraged the crowd to raise their middle finger in the air for the haters trying to hold them back.
