Take a little bit of Lauryn Hill’s hook from her “If I Ruled the World” classic with Nas, add slick wordplay from J. Cole, and a contagious beat by Key Wane, and you have an incredible sleeper hit from Big Sean that appears on his “Detroit” mixtape which officially dropped on September 5. After releasing his “Finally Famous” solo debut and appearing heavily on Good Music’s “Cruel Summer” collaborative effort, this track stands out even as his crew’s latest record, “Clique” featuring Jay-Z and Kanye West climbs up the Billboard charts. But you can’t deny Sean’s inspirational verses and his control of the chorus that clearly shows his aspirations of overcoming his own “Hard Knock Life.”
The best bars by Big Sean: And to my OG locked up bumping “Ready or Not”/ Who was just trying to do it BIG, but wasn’t “Ready to Die” / Cop a first class whatever he like, with hoes already inside/ Now he can rest in peace while he alive
The best bars by J. Cole: I specifically remember, no heat in the winter/ Now I supply heat for the winter
