It isn’t “The Oprah Winfrey Show” but “Oprah’s Next Chapter” is the next best thing. Only Oprah can interview the likes of Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris, Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina, 50 Cent and the Kardashian family and ask all the tough questions that other TV personalities are not allowed to. Oprah was able to ask the Kardashian kids if they were being exploited by their mom and she was also able to ask their mother Kris Jenner the same thing. When interviewing Kim Kardashian, she questioned whether her marriage to Kris Humphries was a publicity stunt and whether her celebrity status is solely based on the fact that a sex tape of her and Ray J leaked and gained millions of viewers.
When the ratings on her Oprah Winfrey Network were sagging, the media mogul decided to become more involved in front of the camera. As a result, her interview with Bobbi Kristina that aired on March 11 copped 3.5 million viewers. It was the largest audience in the network’s 14-month history. This was a big breakthrough for OWN, which has struggled in the ratings since its launch. The 3.5 million is more than twice the network’s previous record, scored Jan. 8 when Oprah interviewed pastor Joel Osteen. 
What makes Oprah’s show unique is a two-part series that she has set up to keep fans coming back for the continuation of her original story. In the first part of her 50 Cent interview Oprah addressed their feud which was what Oprah perceived as his disrespect of women through his lyrics. On the other hand 50 perceived it as her lack of respect for his culture and her distance from the black community. After they discussed their differences we had to wait a week in order to see more about what makes 50 Cent tick. The following week Oprah discussed his love life, how he manages to keep real people around him, how he rates himself as father, and how he hopes to avoid the same financial mistakes that Mike Tyson made. This all concluded during a sit-down with 50’s grandmother to discuss who he really is as a person. No one else has ever been able to get this access to 50 Cent and no one ever will.
The same template will be used next Sunday night as OWN will air the second part of the interview with the Kardashian clan, which will feature Kim’s candid comments about her relationship with Kanye West and interviews with Khloe and her husband, Lamar Odom, and Kourtney and her boyfriend, Scott Disick. By following this method Oprah has turned her intimate affair into must-see TV. Part two airs on OWN at 8 p.m. on June 24.
